Welcome to Caterham Valley Medical Practice


The Practice area covers Caterham, Woldingham, North Godstone and parts of Chaldon and Warlingham.  Please ask at Reception for specific road / street details.

Caterham Valley Medical Practice has four full time partner GPs serving approximately 9,800 patients.

We are a training practice so there will often be other fully qualified doctors attached to the practice in preparation for entering general practice in their own right. We also take part in the teaching of undergraduate medical students.

**CORONAVIRUS UPDATE 18th February 2020**

The NHS in Surrey and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.

The risk to the general public is moderate. If you have arrived back to the UK from mainland China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia or Macau within 14 days, follow the specific advice for returning travellers.

Call 111 now if you've been:

  • to Wuhan or Hubei Province in China in the last 14 days (even if you do not have symptoms)
  • to other parts of China, including Macau and Hong Kong, in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if it's mild)
  • to Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Republic of Korea or Malaysia in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if it's mild)
  • in close contact with someone with confirmed coronavirus

Do not come to the surgery, community pharmacy or hospital. Call 111, stay indoors and avoid close contact with other people.

Dear Patients


As pressure on Primary Care NHS Services continues to increase, the practice is pleased to announce a new facility for patients to request a video consultation with an NHS GP. This facility is aimed at patients who are either unable to attend the practice or would prefer not to wait for the next available appointment.

This facility can be accessed via an Apple or Android App on either a smartphone or tablet and works in the same way as Facetime/Skype. Please note that this facility is currently not available on regular laptops or desktop computers.

The Doctors available are fully qualified and experienced NHS GPs and they will have access to your medical record. If the Doctor feels that you need to be seen in person, they are able to book appointments in the local GP Hubs.

Please note that the GPs at will not be your usual / registered GP at Caterham Valley Medical Practice. Any problems with registration or general queries regarding the app should be directed to LIVI support.


We are now booking for our seasonal Flu Vaccinations.  If you are eligible for a Seasonal Flu vaccination, DON'T DELAY and call the Surgery on 01883 347811 to book your appointment now.  We will be running clinics throughout October.

First Community is trialling a new scheme for patients registered at a number of GP practices in east Surrey. This allows you to refer yourself to our outpatient physiotherapy services without having to see your GP first. If you are 16 years old or above, and registered with one of these surgeries, you will be able to refer yourself for physiotherapy by completing a self-referral form.

The practices involved are:

  • Elizabeth House Surgery 
  • Lingfield Surgery
  • Caterham Valley Medical Practice  (from May 2019)           
  • Oxted Health Centre (from May 2019)                                     
  • Smallfield Surgery (from May 2019)                                          
  • Whyteleafe Surgery  (from May 2019)                                    

Self-referral is suitable for patients with relatively simple conditions* such as joint pain, strains and sprains and back/neck pain. If you have more complex needs – for example, you have movement problems caused by a stroke or multiple sclerosis (MS) – you will still need a referral from a doctor. Self-referrals are also inappropriate for anyone who is currently being treated for cancer or experiencing the following symptoms:

  • unexplained weight loss
  • unexplained bladder or bowel problems
  • night pain that persists despite changing your position
  • fever or night sweats
  • unsteady on feet
  • numbness or tingling around back passage or genitals
  • pins & needles/numbness in both arms or in both legs

How to refer

Complete and return the self-referral form by email or by post. Click here to download the form. You can also pick-up a paper copy of the form from your GP surgery.

Once the form is complete please email to or post to Oxted Therapies Unit, Barnetts Shaw, Oxted RH8 0NQ.

You should only refer yourself for one condition at a time. If you have multiple conditions then you can self-refer again after treatment for your first condition has ended.

What happens next?

Referrals will be assessed by our physiotherapy team who will ensure you are seen by the right service at the right time. If your self-referral is deemed unsuitable we will contact you to explain why and suggest a more appropriate route.

Self-referrals will be treated the same as referrals from GP’s and other sources so self-referring does not guarantee that you will receive physiotherapy treatment any sooner. Self-referrals will save you time as will not have to see your GP prior to being referred.

The physiotherapy appointments will be held at one of First Community’s outpatient clinic in Caterham, Oxted and East Surrey Hospital.

*This outpatient physiotherapy service is for MSK (musculoskeletal) physiotherapy which treats patients who have issues (both short and longer-term issues) that affect muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons. It is suitable for people who are considering surgery.

Improved Access to out of hours GP appointments

GP appointments are now available during the evening and at weekends for patients registered at the Practice at Caterham Dene Hospital and Birchwood Medical Practice (Horley). 

Monday - Friday 4-8pm (Caterham Dene and Birchwood)

Saturday and Sunday: Caterham Dene 10am-2pm,

 Saturday 8-12pm Birchwood Medical Practice

Caterham Dene Community Hospital, Church Road, Caterham, CR3 5RA. 

Birchwood Medical Practice, Health Centre, Kings Rd, Horley, RH6 7DG

The hubs provide both routine and urgent appointments. Appointments can only be booked by calling the practice directly during normal working hours. Please note that there is no longer a walk in GP service at Caterham Dene Hospital - Patient's must book an appointment prior to attending. Please note the practice has an allocation of appointments which are first come, first served. 

*GPs working at the new hubs will be able to access patients’ medical records if the patient is happy to share their information in this way. You can decline for your information to be shared in this way and will be asked before any of your information is shared.

Patients attending the hubs will be treated by a range of experienced clinicians, ensuring that patients are treated by the most appropriate person, in the right place and at the right time. please note, this service is not appropriate for the follow up of conditions as the GPs will not be able to make referrals or order blood tests. 

These appointments are funded by NHS East Surrey CCG and delivered by Alliance for Better Care Ltd, the local GP Federation.
