Antenatal and post natal
Please inform reception as soon as you know you are pregnant. You will need to complete a simple form so that you can book your antenatal scan for when you are between 11 and 13 weeks pregnant. Please book your first antenatal appointment with the midwife when you are 8-10 weeks pregnant. These appointments are on a Wednesday morning. Follow-up antenatal appointments are carried out by the midwife on Wednesdays. The Midwives organise relaxation classes for expectant mothers.
Post-natal checks are usually done 6-8 weeks after the birth by one of the Partners GPs.
Adult and child immunisations and vaccinations
Well Baby Clinics are held each Wednesday afternoon by appointment, where children from 0-5 are immunised by the practice nurse with a GP in attendance.
Routine tetanus and polio, also vaccinations required for foreign travel, are given by appointment with the practice nurse. All patients should have regular tetanus boosters every 10 years (especially the elderly and high-risk groups such as gardeners and those who keep or work with animals).
We have an active flu vaccination programme in the autumn and we recommend vaccination for all patients over 65 and all patients with diabetes, COPD, coronary heart disease, patients who are carers, and other certain chronic disorders. Please ask at reception for more information.
Well woman and family planning
Please book an appointment with the practice nurse for cervical smears. Family planning and contraception advice can be given by the practice nurses or the doctors. Dr Teasdale would also be happy to arrange to fit coils within the practice. Please phone reception for more information and to book an assessment phone call.
Well baby clinic (routine baby checks)
This is held on Wednesday afternoons. Routine development checks are carried out by the doctor by appointment. Sick children should not be brought to this clinic; they should be seen by appointment in the usual way.
Asthma, Diabetes, COPD and Chronic Heart Disease reviews
These disorders should be reviewed annually to monitor progress and ensure the best treatment is being given. Please ask for an appointment with the practice nurse.
Minor operations and cryotherapy
We are able to offer minor operations such as injections of painful joints and aspiration of cysts. Freezing (cryotherapy) of minor skin lesions is done by Dr Hamilton on a monthly basis. Please telephone reception for details.
Treatment and Practice Nursing
We have a nurse who has sessions in the treatment room at the practice for dressings, ear syringing, etc. In addition we have a phlebotomy clinic for blood tests Monday – Friday mornings from 8.40am.
We now have a Clinical Pharmacist attached to the Practice every Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons.
Clinical Pharmacists are highly qualified health professionals who train for many years to become specialists in medicines and how they work. They can work directly with you, as part of the practice team, to make sure your medicines help you get better and stay well. Having a Clinical Pharmacist in the Practice team means you can be treated by the best professional for your needs. Please see the attached leaflet for more information.
